Winnipeg Jets’ Josh Morrissey out until April

Already short staffed on the blueline, the Winnipeg Jets will be even thinner on defence for the foreseeable future.

Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey will be out for over a month after he appeared to injure his shoulder in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

“Josh will be out through the month of March,” Head Coach Paul Maurice said. “And his window will open sometime in early April.”

Morrissey suffered the upper-body injury in the third period Sunday when he was hit into the sideboards by Coyotes forward Vinnie Hinostroza.

With an early April return, Morrissey would be back in time for the start of the playoffs.

The Jets were already without injured defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Joe Morrow.

The addition of two defencemen on trade deadline day Monday now looks even more important.

Bogdan Kiselevich is expected to arrive in Winnipeg sometime Tuesday.

Nathan Beaulieu has already skated with his new teammates and is expected to make his Jets’ debut alongside Kevin Hayes Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild.
