York Regional Police say they are searching for a suspect after a pickup truck can be seen on video crashing into a cruiser in Newmarket and driving away.

Police released dashcam video of the crash on Wednesday with the hope that someone will recognize the vehicle and contact investigators.

Officers on patrol in the area of Yonge Street and Dawson Manor Boulevard spotted a driver asleep at the wheel outside of a restaurant in the area around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

When the officers went to speak to the driver, police said he woke up and talked to them before putting the vehicle in drive, smashing into a cruiser and fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was last seen driving south on Yonge Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers said it was later determined that the vehicle was previously stolen during a warm-up theft on Feb. 8 in Vaughan.

The suspect is believed to be between 40 and 55 years old. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt at the time of the incident with a black jacket and red hat.

Police said the vehicle is a 2019 grey Honda Ridgeline with the licence plate AC90002.
