Montrealers will soon be able to have their say on how the city manages and spends its budget.
The City of Montreal said it will hold annual pre-budget consultations with the public in which local organizations and residents will able to voice their opinions, make recommendations and ask questions ahead of next year’s budget.

“The process put in place is a new exercise that will collectively provide us with the opportunity to experiment, to learn and also to measure the interest it will arouse among the public,” said Benoit Dorais, the chair of the city’s executive committee, in a statement released Wednesday.

Participants will be able to weigh in on several topics, including property taxes and eco-taxation.

After the consultations, the feedback and recommendations will be put to the city council and urban agglomeration council in June.
There is no set date for the public consultations. The city says it will issue a public notice with a schedule as well as the terms and conditions for the hearings.
