Netflix has released the official trailer for the long-awaited Mötley Crüe biopic, The Dirt.
After teasing fans with a short clip earlier in the week, the trailer dropped on Monday morning along with the release date. The Dirt is scheduled for a March 22 release.
The Jeff Tremaine-directed film is based on the best-selling rock autobiography of the same name, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band (published in 2001).
Much like the book, the film will explore the formation, rise and decline of Mötley Crüe and its individual members, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars.

The two-minute trailer not only explores the band’s roots, but accurately captures their history of substance abuse, hooliganism, sexcapades and L.A. lifestyles while living hand-in-hand with fame and fortune.
From Mars’ unfortunate diagnosis of scoliosis (curvature of the spine), to the fatal crash that landed Neil charges of vehicular manslaughter in 1984, there’s expected to be no shortage of drama in The Dirt.
Mötley Crüe disbanded in 2015 after its farewell run between 2014 and 2015, The Final Tour (All Good Things Must Come to an End).
The band became the first-ever to sign a legally binding contract named a “cessation of touring.” The document stated the boys could no longer tour together under the name Mötley Crüe after 2015.

In wake of the trailer’s release, the members of Mötley Crüe took to Twitter to share the trailer — except for Mars, who is generally inactive on social media.
#TheDirtisComing wrote the band’s official page.
“Hope you’re ready,” Lee wrote.
“Based on a Crüe story,” Sixx added.
The casting for The Dirt was finalized last March.
American rapper Machine Gun Kelly will be playing Lee, while Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon takes the role of Mars.
Daniel Webber (The Punisher) will play frontman Neil, while Douglas Booth (Jupiter Ascending) rounds off the main cast as Sixx.

The Dirt was authorized by all four members of Mötley Crüe in the mid-2000s. It began production in 2006, but unfortunately faced a number of delays, rights issues and major changes since then.
Tremaine has been tapped on to direct the project since 2013. After a number of production company changes, Netflix finally bought its rights in 2017.
The soundtrack will be comprised entirely of music from Mötley Crüe’s back-catalogue, including four brand new songs which were recorded by the band last year.
