Sand Lake, a popular summer destination in southeastern Ontario, has been frozen over for a few months, which has brought many ice fishermen and snowmobiling enthusiasts to the area.
Among them were Josh Strugnell and Jordan Lambert, who on Saturday packed up their fishing equipment and took to the ice for an evening of bonding, according to family.
During the night, the two men were inside a portable ice hut when they were struck by a truck driving on the ice, said Strugnell’s sister, Kassy Strugnell. She told Global News the truck fled the scene, leaving Strugnell with a concussion and Lambert with more serious injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that the incident was reported and it is currently under investigation.
Family members of Strugnell say both men have been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home.
More information to come.
