The war between 4/20 and the Park Board continues…
The Park Board passed a motion last night for city staff to send a letter to mayor, council, and 4/20 organizers asking for an alternative place to hold 4/20 in 2019, away from Sunset Beach.
The motion addresses public complaints and concerns about the perceived disruption caused by 4/20 and a growing frustration from residents.
The board also voted to explore options into how cannabis may be permitted to be sold at the event.
The legalization of cannabis on October 17, 2018 by the Federal Government introduced a legal framework under which cannabis products can only be purchased legally through government-licensed outlets.
Smoking or vaping cannabis in parks and on beaches is prohibited under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act and the Park Board Smoking Regulation Bylaw.
During the 2018 event, the Vancouver Police Department counted 482 vendor tents, from which 4/20 organizers generate revenue.
