Snow squall warning in effect for Barrie, Collingwood, Midland: Environment Canada

A snow squall warning is in effect for the Barrie, Collingwood and Midland areas.

Environment Canada issued the warning, saying snow squalls are expected to hit the region on Friday.

The weather agency says snow squalls developing over Lake Huron will be accompanied by 80 km/h winds.

Officials say the heavy, blowing snow may cause reduced visibility, making travel hazardous.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” the warning reads.

Environment Canada says some areas could receive 15 centimetres of snow.

School buses in the Elmvale, Midland, Penetanguishene and Orillia areas were cancelled on Friday.

Officials say the snow squall activity is expected to continue into Saturday morning.
