A Surrey councillor wants the city to hire an ethics commissioner and bring in an expanded whistle-blower policy.
Jack Hundial has served a notice of motion for introduction of the new position at the city, something he campaigned on.
“We’ve certainly discovered there’s been some shortfalls when public comes and they don’t feel satisfied with the answer from some staff. It gives them another avenue, another option to address their concerns.”

Hundial says most big cities in Canada have an ethics commissioner.
He is also looking to see the city’s whistle-blower policy expanded to offer protection for city staff and contractors who feel they need to report any wrongdoing, perceived or otherwise, so “there’s no jeopardy to them or their job.”
