A man and a woman are facing over 70 charges, including theft and forgery, after showing up at a hotel in a small Saskatchewan community with no identification or money.

Members of the Kyle RCMP detachment were called to the White Bear Hotel in White Bear on Dec. 18, after the couple sought food and lodging.

Police said the vehicle they were driving was stolen from Wapella, Sask., and they were arrested.

It was just the tip of the iceberg, police said.

Investigators said it took some time to identify the couple and inventory all the contents in the vehicle, which is now over 200 exhibits just from Saskatchewan.

Dustin Purvis, 37, and Katelyn Jane Koury, 33, are facing 74 charges, including theft, mail theft, forgery, and fraud.

They will be back in Swift Current provincial court on Feb. 13.

Regina police are also investigating to see if they are linked to recent similar crimes in that city, including fraud, possession of stolen property, and fraudulent purchase of a motor vehicle.

Purvis and Koury are also facing 165 charges in central and northeastern Ontario, including dangerous driving, possession of controlled substances, and fraud.

Police said it is possible there are more incidents in Manitoba and northern Ontario that have not yet been linked to the couple.
