Waterloo Regional Police say they are investigating a homicide that occurred early Thursday morning in Cambridge.
“This morning, we responded to a residence on Southwood Drive in Cambridge,” Const. Andre Johnson said. “Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with serious injuries.”
“The male was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
Upon arrival, they found a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say that there will be an autopsy held on Friday to determine the exact cause of death.

Johnson would not confirm the cause of death but said, ”initial reports from witnesses stated that they had heard gunshots earlier this morning.”
Late Thursday afternoon, police said that their were several people seen leaving the house after the gunshots were heard.
He said that police are still determining whether or not the victim knew his attacker or not.
This is the first homicide of the year in Waterloo region.
Police are warning residents in the area that there will be an increased police presence as they investigate.

“We’re just asking anyone who was in the area at the time if they did see any person or persons or if they did see any vehicles in the area at the time to contact us,” Johnson explained.
