Reports of shots fired in Burnaby parking lot

Burnaby RCMP say they are investigating a report that shots were fired around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the parking lot of the Old Orchard Shopping Centre Complex at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Kingsway Avenue.

“At this stage it appears to be a gang-motivated shooting between peripheral players believed to be involved in the drug trade,” sais Sgt. Peter Thiessen, spokesperson for the Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service.

Witnesses on the scene said three men in a silver coloured BMW were parked on the lot.

One of the men got out of the car and started walking away. At one point he then stopped, turned, and fired two shots at the two other men in the car. He then got into another car, which appeared to be waiting for him, and then left the area.

The two men who were shot at were unhurt, and got out of the area on foot. No one was injured in the shooting.

Police have identified the two men associated with the BMW as they are well known to police.

Inspector Bob Page, the Officer in Charge of Burnaby RCMP Investigative Services, stated “Any time we encounter this level of violence, and complete disregard for the safety of anyone else who might have also been in the area, we treat it as a Detachment priority. ”.

Police are asking for any witnesses, or anyone with information regarding this incident, to contact the Burnaby RCMP serious Crime at (604) 294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at (604) 222-TIPS.
