Death of 24-year-old man, who was found near Pickering high school, being treated as homicide

Durham Regional Police say they’re treating the death of a 24-year-old man as a homicide after he was found in a Pickering forest on Friday.

Police said officers responded to a call from a woman who found the man while walking her dogs in the forest near Pine Ridge Secondary School, located near Liverpool Road and Finch Avenue, at around 7:30 a.m.

In an update released Friday evening, police said the man had “obvious signs of trauma.”

The victim has been identified has Pickering resident Nicholas Samaroo.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled to determine how Samaroo died.

Samaroo’s death marks Durham Region’s first homicide in 2019.
