N.B. man facing 2nd-degree murder charge in Christmas Eve death of St. Stephen woman

A New Brunswick man is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of a St. Stephen woman on Christmas Eve.

Irving John Hastey, 55, of Little Ridge, N.B. appeared in Saint John Provincial Court Thursday morning.

RCMP say that shortly after 11:10 a.m. on Dec. 24, officers were called to a home on Schoodic Street in regards to a dispute.

Officers arrived to find a deceased woman and an unresponsive man.

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police say he was released from hospital on Boxing Day and subsequently arrested by police.

According to court documents, the victim’s name is Crystal Ann Tracey, 52.

Documents also show Hastey allegedly breached an undertaking because he was prohibited from contacting Tracey and from being at her residence.

Hastey has been remanded and is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 14, 2019.
