SASKATOON – Saskatoon keeps on growing and according to the city of Saskatoon it isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.
On Wednesday, the planning and development branch released the Saskatoon Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) population projection report for the next 20 years.
The city is expecting to add 35,000 people to the population in the next 4 years alone.
“Change is inevitable but this change will be managed. Based in part on public consultation, there are many plans underway to make sure Saskatoon is able to accommodate this growth to become a city where citizens continue to enjoy a high quality of life,” said Alan Wallace, Planning and Development branch manager.
With a growth rate of 2.5 per cent, city officials project the population could hit nearly 400,000 within 20 years. The CMA also projects a population of around 460,000 in Saskatoon if surrounding municipalities grow at 3.5 per cent.
The city also says the fasting age group over that time frame will be people over 65-years-old. However, Saskatoon will remain one of the youngest cities in Canada.
