By New Year’s Eve, the Planning and Development Branch of the Community Services Department estimates Saskatoon will reach a record population of 234,200.
The comparable estimate for December 31, 2010, is 228,500.
Saskatoon’s population grew by approximately 2.5 per cent, which is consistent with recent growth rates experienced over the past five years.
The Planning and Development Branch calculates population estimates for the city of Saskatoon using information from Statistics Canada, factoring in recent trends in growth.
As of October 1st, 2011, Statistics Canada estimated Saskatchewan’s population to be 1,063,535.
