1 teen dead, 2 injured in Alabama mall shooting ahead of Black Friday

UPDATE: Nov. 25 — The Hoover Police Department now says that the man who was shot and killed by an officer, Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., was not the gunman in this incident. The gunman is believed to still be at large, The New York Times reported.

One teen is dead and two others have been injured following a shooting at an Alabama mall prior to Black Friday shopping.

Authorities say the shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. local time Thursday at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover.

That fight brought an exchange of gunfire in which one of the teens, who is 18 years old, was hit, while the other tried to flee before being met by two officers with the Hoover Police Department.

Captain Gregg Rector said at a news conference that a Hoover officer “did engage that individual, shot him and he is dead on the scene.”

The other teen involved in the fight was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Police said a 12-year-old girl also struck by gunfire was hospitalized. Her condition was not immediately known.

The City of Hoover tweeted that police had the incident under control.

All were advised to avoid the mall area at this time.

It is to be closed until further notice.
