A soggy flood forecast for Saskatchewan has gotten worse as a higher than normal snowpack lingers.

The Water Security Agency says even more areas of the province than first anticipated will likely see flooding.

The agency says a one in 25 year flood event is possible for Regina, Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.

The agency is also now forecasting above normal or well above normal run-off in the entire southern half of Saskatchewan.

Areas where flooding is likely also include Regina and Moose Jaw, stretching southeast to Weyburn, as well as Saskatoon to Prince Albert and west to North Battleford.

The problem is that there was more snow than normal last month in many areas and the cold air is hanging around.

Agency officials say there’s an increased risk of a high flood peak if temperatures rise quickly and the snow melts fast.
