EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a string of alleged break and enters in the Kildare neighbourhood in the northeast area of the city.

Michael Fred Yakimchuk, 49, has been charged with 12 counts of break and enter, possession of break-in instruments, and outstanding criminal warrants.  He is remanded and will appear in court on April 18th.

EPS Northeast Division officers have investigated several reports of residential break and enters in the Kildare neighbourhood in recent weeks. Officers were conducting patrols in the area.

Police say around 11:14 am Wednesday, April 3, they received a report of a break and enter in progress at a house near 76 Street and 144 Avenue. The suspect ran away, but the EPS Canine Unit was able to track the suspect to another house that was also reported broken into in the area of 77 Street and 142 Avenue.

In February, police said Edmonton was experiencing an “extraordinary amount” of break and enters to residential properties.
