Police search for suspects after string of break and enters

EDMONTON- The Edmonton Police Service is asking for the public’s help in locating two people believed to be involved in a string of residential break and enters.

Police say Edmonton has experienced an “extraordinary amount” of break and enters to residential underground parking garages since late January, particularly in the west and south sides of the city.

Police are searching for 30-year-old Michael Alexander Desjarlais and 22-year-old Kayla Dawn Courtoreille in connection with the break and enters.

Officers want to remind residents to be extra cautious when parking their vehicles for the night, especially those who live in multi-unit buildings, such as condominiums or apartments.

Police say garage door openers and personal information are the types of items criminals are looking for.

“It will minimize your chance of your identity and finances being compromised and save you a lot of grief later on by simply removing these items at night,” said Detective Calvin Mah.

EPS suggests residents:

· Remove all valuables and electronic key fobs and garage door openers
· Do not leave important documents with personal information in your vehicles, including registration and insurance
· Be wary of strangers in your building and do not hold the door open for people you don’t recognize as tenants
· Building managers should ensure proper tracking of keyless entry fobs and have proper video surveillance cameras in place. They are also asked to be mindful of who entrance codes are being given to and to change the codes periodically.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Desjarlais or Courtoreille is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
