Tommy Chong was the guest of honour at a party in Kelowna Friday night celebrating the legalization of marijuana in Canada.

Fans lined up to meet the comedian and pot advocate.

“What just happened? I just met a legend,” said Chong fan Bill Watt.

“Warm, rich, caring, personable. Awesome,” was how fan Darren Martin described him.

Party organizers originally had plans to host the event Wednesday, the day cannabis became legal in Canada.

But Chong lost his passport and had to wait for a replacement.

“In the end it worked out for the better,” Quick Grow Kelowna president, CEO and company owner Darryl Borsato said.

Borsato flew Chong up today in a private jet. He also expected hundreds more to turn out because the event was held on a Friday evening.

Chong seemed to be chill about it all, leading many to believe he was on a high during the meet and greet.

“Hey, we’re stoners,” Chong said. “We do whatever comes to mind at the time. Roll with it. Then roll it.”

The expense of getting Chong to the party was worth it, according to Bursato, who equates marijuana legalization to the industrial revolution.

“It will change people’s lives and change the economy of Canada,” Borsato said.
