Ottawa police officer facing sex assault charge: SIU

OTTAWA – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says an Ottawa police officer is now facing charges in relation to an alleged sexual assault.

The SIU says the alleged incident took place in October 2017, but offered no details.

The unit says the force reported the incident last November.

Sgt. Aasim Ansari is now charged with one count each of sexual assault and breach of trust by a public officer.

The allegations against Ansari come just over one week after another Ottawa police officer was charged with 21 offences, including sexual assault.

Ottawa police have since laid another 11 charges against Const. Eric Post, who has been suspended from duty since June 13.

Post now faces a total of 32 criminal charges involving seven alleged victims.

Ottawa investigators notified the SIU of the allegations against Post, but the police watchdog left the investigation with local police.

The criminal charges against Ansari and Post have not been proven in court.
