Airdrie RCMP and the Airdrie Fire Department are investigating after a detached garage exploded behind a home on Thursday.
RCMP said officers, along with the Airdrie Fire Department and EMS, were called to 1 Avenue N.E. at about 2:15 p.m. after reports came in that a garage had exploded.
Fire investigators said the explosion happened inside the 26′ by 26′ garage and caused significant damage.
Two men at the scene were taken to hospital by ambulance. EMS said both men, in their mid-20s, were in stable, non-life-threatening condition and suffering from burns sustained by a flash explosion.
One Avenue was temporarily closed in the area around the explosion and utilities were shut off.
Police said in a news release Friday that the area is safe and there is no risk to the public.
