New cameras and lights worth $80,000 have been installed in a remote stretch of road in Surrey where four bodies have been found this year.
The City of Surrey is tackling Colebrooke road; which has been well known for years as a place where drugs are bought and sold as well as where gang-related activities occur. Three new cameras and nine light standards have been installed to help prevent crimes happening in this area.

“That specific road has a history but the latest events and major incidents we’ve witnessed happening in this area have led to initiatives being taken,” says RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet.
Since January four bodies have been found on Colebrooke with two of them being found as recently as two weeks ago.

Traffic cameras are usually installed to monitor vehicles on the roadways but these cameras have been put in place in direct response to the spike in criminal activity.
RCMP believe their “double barreled approach” of surveillance cameras coupled with the enhanced police presence in the day and evenings will help prevent as well as bring an end to the suspicious activity happening in the area.
