Edmonton Eskimos release defensive lineman Gerald Rivers

The Edmonton Eskimos released International defensive lineman Gerald Rivers on Tuesday.

Rivers made the Eskimos 46-man roster out of training camp, he recorded four defensive tackles in the five games he appeared in this season.

The Eskimos are expecting to have defensive lineman Mike Moore back for Thursday’s game against the B.C. Lions in Vancouver after suffering an injury in Week One in Winnipeg. He’s been activated off the team’s six-game injured list.  Darius Allen also returned last week for first time since Week One.

The Eskimos are tied for the CFL lead in sacks with 17, Kwaku Boateng has five sacks which is good for second in the league.
D-line coach Demetrius Maxie says his group is coming together well.

“You know every day they’re getting better,” Maxie said.  “Every week they’re getting better and they’re starting to get a feel for each other and starting to play off each other.  They have been explosive and have been playing great games with each other.  As long as they continue to do things together they are going to continue to progress as an individual.”

Tuesday at practice saw the return of running back and kick-returner Jordan Robinson who suffered an injury last week against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Offensive lineman Justin Sorensen and receiver Vidal Hazelton also participated on Tuesday.

Kick-off from B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver on Thursday night is 8 p.m., 630 CHED will have Countdown to Kick-off starting at 6 p.m.
