Fire destroys old farmhouse in Keene – Aug 1, 2018

An old wooden farmhouse was engulfed in flames around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

“It was huge. The whole house was in engulfed in flames. It lit up the whole sky,” said Dawn Damiany, a neighbour who was woken up in the middle of the night by another neighbour.

“We had a friend come home late at night and came to the door and said the house is on fire and we needed to call 911,” Damiany said.

After about 10 minutes, the Otonotobee South Monaghan fire department arrived and blocked off Keene Road.

Ted Bryan, fire chief for Otonobee South Monaghan, says it took an hour to get the flames under control. The house was destroyed.

Danielle Vogels, another neighbour, says the house was empty and unoccupied.

The Fire Chief confirms the house was vacant.

The fire department ordered in an excavator to tear down what was left of the farmhouse.

Since the building is completely destroyed, fire officials say the cause of the fire will probably remain undetermined.
