Hamilton Police have cleared the “environmental issue” at Quantum Murray Enterprises.

Police say shortly before 10:00 am on Tuesday July 31, 2018, officers responded to a suspicious circumstances call in the area of Strathearne Avenue.

Police say a truck operator delivering a load of metal waste to the disposal company set off the radiation detectors.

Employees investigated and located the source of the radiation, which was moved to another area of the property and cordoned off.

As a precaution, the building was evacuated, along with two neighbouring businesses.

The Hamilton Fire Department’s HAZMAT team, the Hamilton Police Service’s EDU officers and nuclear employees from McMaster University attended to assist with identifying and detecting the radiological source.

The radiation levels emitted from the package were determined to be safe and it was removed from the properly to be disposed of properly.
