West Nile virus has arrived in Hamilton.
The city’s public health department says a batch of mosquitoes trapped this week in the city has tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).
These are the first WNV positive mosquitos for Hamilton this year, prompting the Medical Officer of Health to increase the risk of the virus to moderate from low.
The city is reminding residents to protect themselves against mosquito bites and to remove standing water from private property to prevent mosquito breeding.
