When the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks talks about suiting up, he’s usually referring to the squad gearing up and hitting the ice.
But with the Canucks on the golf course, Travis Green is talking about suits of another kind.
Green is calling on Canucks fans (and everyone else) to dig through their closets for unused professional clothing this month to donate to people in need.

It’s part of the annual suit drive organized by the Moores men’s clothing chain, which gathers the workwear and donates it to 65 charity organizations across the country.

“It’s a pay it forward, really,” Green told CKNW’s The Jon McComb Show.
Green said the idea is to get the clothing to people who have been having a tough time getting back into the workforce.
“It’s important to look professional in the workforce,” said Green.
“For people to go into interviews, it’s not always easy. If you look good, you’re definitely going to feel good, and if we can help people in that area, it’s definitely a nice thing to do.”
Last year, Moores collected 62,903 donated items, and the company is hoping to beat the total this year.

Green said he’s filled a box of clothing that he will be donating, and is encouraging players on the team to do the same.
“Part of being a professional athlete is giving back, and the Canucks do a great job in giving back to the community, and I believe the players know it’s their responsibility,” he said.
“And it’s not like it’s work for them, they like doing it.”
Items can be dropped off at any of the company’s locations until the end of July. Suits, ties, belts and shoes that are in good condition are all welcome.
