WATCH: Const. Andrea Lefort of the Winnipeg Police Service details how two criminals ran into the side of a police cruiser – Jul 20, 2018

Two men are facing drug related charges after one of them ran through barricades and crashed into a moving police cruiser.

It happened near Notre Dame Avenue and Albert Street just after 9 p.m. Thursday.

The area is under heavy construction, which means barricades limit both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

According to police, the two men were running in the area when one of them went through the barricaded area and smacked into the side of a Winnipeg Police Service marked cruiser that was patrolling in the area.

“He actually went through the barricades that say ‘No pedestrian crossing’ and ending up striking the side of the cruiser car,” Const. Andrea Lefort said.

The man ran into the side mirror and struck his upper body.

When officers went to check on the first man, the second man, who did not cross through the barricades, arrived.

While waiting for an ambulance to get on scene, police say the first man passed a clear plastic baggie with a white substance in it to the second man.

The two were arrested and taken into custody.

It’s unclear why the two men were running in the first place.

“They were just in the area running for whatever reason, they were not involved with police at that point in time when they were running.” Lefort said.

Anthony Howdle, 48, of Alberta has been charged with possession of a scheduled substance.

Levi Howdle, 21, of Flin Flon is also facing possession of a scheduled substance and failure to comply with conditions.
