The number of vehicle collisions in our province is at an all-time high, according to the latest numbers from the Insurance Corporation of B.C. (ICBC).
There were 350,000 collisions on B.C. roads in 2017, an average of 960 crashes a day.

The total cost of claims was $4.8 billion, an average of $13 million a day.

According to a poll conducted by Insights West for ICBC’s Drive Smart road safety campaign, 75 per cent of drivers admitted to bad driving habits.
Drivers said bad behaviour on the roads is their greatest source of frustration — ahead of traffic and road construction — and is making driving more challenging than it was five years ago.
ICBC interim vice-president Lindsay Matthews said the latest survey “shows that drivers are frustrated.”
“On the top of the list of what bothers drivers the most — other drivers,” she said.
“They point the fingers at others for flouting the rules of the road — for being too fast, too aggressive — yet the vast majority admitted to doing exactly the same thing when they’re driving.”
Mario Canseco of Insights West notes up to 40 per cent drivers admitted they “may have forgotten” some of the rules of the road.
Still, drivers tend to overestimate their abilities behind the wheel.
“While they remain frustrated at the actions of others, drivers still hold their driving skills in high regard,” he said. “In fact, two-thirds think their skills are above average.”
