Man accused of pointing firearm at Saskatoon police officers

A man is facing a string of charges after allegedly pointing a firearm at Saskatoon police officers while driving a stolen pickup truck.

Patrol officers first spotted the black Chevrolet Silverado early Tuesday morning in the 100-block of 33rd Street West. Police believed a stolen licence plate was used on the truck.

The driver refused to stop when officers tried to pull the truck over. Police said officers stopped chasing the truck as it headed out of the city on Highway 11.

The truck was seen entering the city a short time later and police said a firearm was pointed at officers.

Two tire deflation devices were used and the truck stopped in the 200-block of 3rd Avenue North.

The driver then got out of the truck, set something on the ground, and then tried to flee on foot, according to police.

Officers arrested him nearby.

Police said a loaded replica firearm and ammunition were seized, and the truck and mismatched licence plate were confirmed stolen.

A 21-year-old Saskatoon man is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, pointing a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of prohibited ammunition, evading police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property.
