PREVIEW: Racers competing in ‘Survival Run’ carry live chickens as part of an obstacle

“Survival Run” follows two men – Olof Dallner and Junyong Pak – as they compete in the Fuego y Agua Survival Run. This competition marries ultra marathon distances with obstacles, including climbing a volcano. Athletes have to run more than 70 kilometres in 20 hours. But it’s not just a run. It’s a living, breathing obstacle course. As part of the race competitors have to carry a wild chicken for roughly three kilometres to a checkpoint. Other challenges include memory tests, climbing trees, and dragging large piles of wood.
