A horse had to be euthanized after an incident at the Calgary Stampede chuckwagon race on Wednesday.
The Calgary Stampede said in a news release Thursday that the outrider horse was immediately assessed by a veterinarian after the incident and then transported by ambulance.
The vet determined that the horse had a fractured lower front leg and needed to be put down.
“This type of injury is known in racing horses and is not unique to chuckwagon racing,” the release said. “This loss is felt deeply within our organization as well as by the owner.”
