For local food producers like Jody Gowans, events like this are one of the only ways to sell and showcase her products.
“We can’t sell in grocery stores right now because we produce at home and so this gives ourselves and the public a variety and gives them a chance to sample some local treasures,” said Jody Gowans, owner of The Cultured Foodie.
The borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro has brought together Gowans and other local producers to participate in their second public farmer’s market.

Every Sunday until September, residents have the chance to come to Château Pierrefonds park and shop.
“To encourage a healthy lifestyle, to encourage our local economy and to encourage a sense of community – right next door,” said Naomi Boyd, the market’s coordinator.
Fresh vegetables grown from a West-Island farm, Quebec maple syrup and all kinds of delicious goodies were on full display.

Residents say they’re happy and proud of their borough for taking on the initiative.
“I like to shop locally as much as possible. You can’t get fresher products than what you have growing right beside you, so it’s always a priority,” said Pierrefonds resident Martine Claremont.
Over 220 people stopped by the market Sunday. The borough says next week there will be even more food producers. They’re hoping to grow the market as much as possible throughout the season.
You can visit the Château Pierrefonds market on Sundays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. until September 9, or stop by d’À-Ma-Baie Public Market on Fridays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. until October 19.
