Suspect ID’d, wanted for attempted murder after stabbing in Ottawa’s east end

Local police are seeking a 25-year-old, “armed and dangerous” Ottawa man in their investigation of a stabbing that happened overnight near Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa’s east end.

Police and paramedics responded to a call from a neighbour around 1:30 a.m. Friday and found a 35-year-old man with critical, life-threatening stab wounds.

The victim – who was stabbed in a residence near Coleford Place and St. Laurent Boulevard – was taken to the trauma centre at the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus, paramedics said.

Police have identified the suspect as Brian Barnabas. He is wanted for attempted murder.

Officials describe Barnabas as five-foot-eight-inches tall, weighing 146 pounds, and consider him to be armed and dangerous.

“If you see him please do not approach him, contact 911,” a police statement said.
