Police could not confirm whether the remains were discovered as part of the ongoing search for Colin Joseph Beaton, 31, who has been missing since Saturday.

A public Facebook post from MLA Allan MacMaster, who is Beaton’s cousin, was posted late Thursday confirming Beaton had passed and thanking the community for their support.

“Colin was found this morning by family and a close friend. He is now resting in peace. The Beaton Family would like to thank RCMP members and ground search & rescue volunteers. Thank you to those of you who came forward when you thought you might have seen Colin, and to everyone who volunteered to search further. Thank you for your prayers,” the post reads in part.

MacMaster goes on to say the family will always remember Beaton and “keep him close to our hearts.”
