Rori Hache would have turned 19 years old on July 9th.  Instead, her life was cut short when she went missing and was found dead last year.

Now, Hache’s family is trying to keep her memory alive, planning a public celebration of her birthday.  “We are doing this to keep her name alive,” said her mother Shanan Dionne, adding that, “she’s not gonna be swept under the rug.”

Friends and family are planning to do something in her memory.   On July 7th, anyone can gather at Memorial Park in Oshawa for the celebration.  This seems like an appropriate meeting place because a nearby monument bears the inscription,”The Garden of the Unforgotten.”   From there, supporters will venture out and clean up areas in the town Hache once called home.

“Rori loved coming here,” Dionne said.  “It was her centre ground to where she lived or to where she went. This was one place she always [went] through.”

Adam Strong was charged in December, 2017 with indecent interference with a dead body, after police found remains belonging to Hache inside his McMillan Drive apartment.  So far, no-one has been charged in her murder.  The court proceedings have been slow because Strong had difficulty finding a lawyer.  Those who knew Hache have been there every step of the way, but they’re frustrated with the delays.  So they’re trying to focus on the community coming together for this weekend’s cleanup — something they hope to make an annual event.

“It’s probably going to be the most uplifting emotion for me,” a tearful Dionne said, “because I am going to see either 10 people show up or a thousand people show up, and as her mom, that’s such a magnificent feeling to see

Strong, meanwhile, will be making a court appearance in August, but his preliminary hearing will be October 15th.
