The University of Alberta’s Parkland Institute has received a $1-million gift to its endowment fund from an anonymous donor.
The public policy research centre said it’ll use the money to improve its ongoing research and education programming.

“Parkland Institute is grateful for the trust put in us by the donor,” Parkland Institute director Trevor Harrison said. “It reflects Parkland’s growing reputation as one of Alberta’s and Canada’s leading research institutes.”

Parkland Institute is a public policy research institute in the U of A’s faculty of arts.

The institute said it will receive about $40,000 annually in perpetuity from the additional endowment principal.
“This additional funding will ensure the stability necessary to Parkland’s ongoing research and programming and more generally provide assurance to our other supporters that we will continue to contribute to informed debate, government accountability and strengthened democracy in Alberta,” Harrison said.
The institute said it doesn’t receive government or corporate funding, making the anonymous donation more vital.
