UPDATE: Alcohol ruled out as factor in deadly crash near Elrose, Sask.
Six people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in southwestern Saskatchewan Friday afternoon.
RCMP say two SUVs collided head-on in the northbound lane of Highway 4, south of Rosetown, near the community of Elrose.
Two adults — a 26-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman — and three children — aged six, four and two — were found dead in one of the vehicles.
RCMP said Saturday all five were from the same immediate family who lived in the Rosetown area.
A 71-year-old woman from the Swift Current area, who was the only person in the other SUV, also died.
RCMP say there were no other people in the vehicles and no names will be released.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
The collision scene was cleared early Saturday morning and the highway was re-opened.
“The provincial coroner’s office is assisting in this matter, as is Victim Services,” RCMP said in a news release. “The appropriate mental health supports are also being offered to RCMP members.”
