Man in Red Deer robbed of wallet and phone, attacked with machete: RCMP

Red Deer RCMP are on the hunt for an SUV and its driver after an alleged assault and robbery in the community of Riverside Meadows on Tuesday.

The alleged robbery occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday in an alleyway near 60 Street and Taylor Drive, police said in a news release.

Police said the suspect demanded cash from the victim and a machete was allegedly used in the process.

The victim was robbed of their wallet and cell phone and suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack, police said.

“RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services attended immediately and the victim has been taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries,” police said.

Police are searching the area for the vehicle, which they describe as a newer model Ford SUV that is black in colour.

The driver of the black SUV was described by police as being a man that is approximately six feet tall.

The suspect vehicle was last seen driving east on 60 Street, police said.

Police add they are looking for a second vehicle occupied by a man and a woman with blonde hair. Police do not have a description of the vehicle.

“At this point in the investigation, RCMP [does] not believe this was a random attack.,” police said. “Red Deer RCMP are asking citizens who see the suspect vehicle or who have information about this crime to call Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.”
