Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback honoured by league

Rookie quarterback Chris Streveler has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after leading the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to their first win of the season.

Streveler racked up 246 passing yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s 56-10 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. He also ran in a touchdown, finishing the game with 98 rushing yards.

The American took over the Bombers’ starting quarterback role after Matt Nichols suffered a knee injury during training camp. In his first two professional games, Streveler has completed 37 of his 56 pass attempts for 424 yards and six touchdowns. He’s been intercepted twice and has a total of 128 rushing yards.

Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and Jeremiah Masoli of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats round out the Shaw CFL Top Performers for Week 2.

Mitchell was 22 for 24 for 324 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Stampeders 41-7 win at Toronto. The 90.9% completion rate is the 3rd highest all time in league history.

Masoli threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 59 yards to lead the Tiger Cats to an impressive 38-21 win at Edmonton.

Streveler and Masoli will go head to head in Week Three when the Blue Bombers visit Hamilton Friday Night for the Ticats home opener at Tim Horton’s Field.

The broadcast gets underway at 4 p.m. with the pregame show on 680 CJOB.
