On June 16, OPP and paramedics responded around 1:30 p.m. to a call involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a private driveway on West Street in Trenton.

Constable Derrick Osmond with the Quinte West OPP says after a lengthy investigation, more details came to light.

“The investigation concluded there was enough evidence to charge them with 2nd degree murder.”

Police say the pedestrian, Samuel Joseph Andrews, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was later discovered that Andrews was previously in a relationship with the accused.

It’s not clear what sparked the argument, but a neighbour says the man had jumped in front of the car to stop the woman from driving away.

Theo Godee who lives in the area tells CKWS News he knew there was more to the story, when police were there long after the incident.

“After a couple of days, the police cars were still there,” Godee said. “Later on we heard there was a dispute where a lady was getting investigated.”

On Monday the OPP arrested and charged Nicole Lorraine Scardino, 45, with second-degree murder.

Neighbours in the area say it was a common occurrence to hear the couple arguing, while others say they kept to themselves.

The investigation remains under the direction of Det. Insp. Rob Matthews with the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Scardino appeared in a Belleville courtroom on Tuesday and remains in custody.
