A severe thunderstorm warning issued for the city of Calgary early Friday afternoon was ended at 3:26 p.m.

Environment Canada said “a line of thunderstorms” that was tracking through the city had stalled over some areas of the city, meaning flooding was a possibility along with strong winds and heavy rain.

It also said dime-sized hail could accompany the rain and strong winds.

“Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops,” the warning states.

A severe thunderstorm warning can be issued when an approaching storm, or a storm happening, can produce one or more of large hail, damaging wind and torrential rain.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” Environment Canada said. “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
