SAMSUNG ENTERS PREMIUM SOUND MARKET

Last week I was invited to New York for a first-hand look at Samsung’s new audio line up. From what I saw and heard, Samsung is doing to audio what it has done to TV over the past several years: quality, inventiveness and coolness. Its use of vacuum tubes with digital amplifiers in the following products offers amazingly clean sound, available in Canada later this spring:  The Samsung
DA-E750 Audio Dock (MSRP: $699.99), Samsung HT-E6530 3D Blu-ray 1000 watt 5.1 Home Entertainment System (MSRP:
$699.99) and Samsung HT-E6730W 3D Blu-ray 1,330 watt 7.1 Home Entertainment System (MSRP:
$999.99).  

The flagship DA-E750 audio dock is stunning in craftsmanship, design and performance. Deep red or black mahogany finish, a discrete rear iOS and micro USB swing-out dock, 100 watts from two woven glass fiber speakers and rich under-chassis woofer, Apple AIrPlay and Samsung Allshare, wireless Bluetooth 3.0 audio CD quality sound which rocks with Galaxy S II smartphones, Player and the Note.  An array of analog hookups in the back complete the package, including USB memory stick and external hard drive connections.

The demos were impressive but not as cool as Samsung Canada President James Politeski’s personal demo from his vast music selection off his Galaxy Note, afterwords. He cranked the E750 up, sometimes painfully, but  the audio dock stood its ground. Lookout Bose cause there is a new kid on the block! 

I was also impressed with the 2.1 HW-E550 soundbar with separate woofer. It can be enjoyed in a one-piece  horizontal mode or come apart in two vertical units on either side of the TV with included stands…smart. 

Another cool Samsung audio idea was a pair of compact Bluetooth speakers which wirelessly bring the TV audio to, for example, your kitchen counter, keeping the original TV volume in the family or game room down. Catch the TV audio action anywhere in your home…brilliant.
