Seton Cineplex ‘ramping up hiring’ following fire, expected to open summer 2018

Originally scheduled for a spring 2018 opening date, the Cineplex movie theatre in Seton will now be open by the summer following a massive fire that nearly destroyed the cinema.

The theatre was nearly completed when fire tore through the building in November 2017. An investigation later revealed the blaze was caused by an unknown electrical failure.

Seven months later, the movie theatre is “ramping up hiring” and reaching out to former employees, Cineplex told Global News on Wednesday.

“We reached out to the employees who we had originally hired before the fire to see if they were still interested in joining the team at Cineplex Cinemas Seton and VIP,” spokesperson Sarah Van Lange said in an emailed statement.

Van Lange said many of the former employees had actually joined other teams within the Cineplex network.

No firm date has been announced for when the theatre will be officially open but Van Lange said there will be “no traces of the fire from last November”.

“We will be ready to — from a staffing and construction perspective — entertain movie-lovers across the city,” Van Lange said.

The 43,000 square-foot cinema is the first Cineplex VIP movie theatre in Calgary.
