Police say they have a suspect in custody after three women were injured in a hit-and-run incident in downtown Portland, Ore.
Two of the women are suffering life-threatening injuries. All three were struck while walking on a sidewalk at Portland State University’s urban campus.
The driver and the vehicle, described by witnesses as a blue SUV, fled the scene. A witness later saw the vehicle at an LRT station and called 911, police explained.
Police have not yet determined a motive and know little about the man, Simpson said. Authorities are getting a search warrant so they can seize the car as evidence, he said, and have yet to rule out factors such as intoxication, mental health problems or a medical incident.
Portland Police tweeted the bureau “does not believe there is a danger to the community connected with this incident.”
Footage from news helicopters Friday shows officers arresting a man from the type of a vehicle. The car has significant damage to its front end. Police haven’t confirmed if he’s the suspect.

The call first came in Friday morning as a single pedestrian struck, said Lt. Tommy Schroeder with Portland Fire and Rescue. Multiple first responders swarmed the scene as calls to emergency officials came pouring in.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact officials.
