Man, 25, dies in hospital after being shot while sitting in taxi in southwest Edmonton

Edmonton police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot while sitting in the back seat of a taxi in southwest Edmonton early Thursday morning.

At approximately 1 a.m., police responded to reports of gunshots in the area of 111 Street and 23 Avenue.

Police said the taxi driver, who was not involved in the shooting, immediately contacted the cab company’s dispatch and took the man to hospital. The victim died of his injuries about five hours later, police said.

The victim has been identified by police as 25-year-old Harry Gillis. An autopsy confirmed he died of gunshot wounds.
