Police were called to the area of 97 Avenue and Acadia Drive S.E. just before 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said two pedestrians were struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, as they entered a marked crosswalk. Police said the truck was being driven by a 46-year-old man.

An 83-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene while a 21-year-old woman was taken to Foothills Medical Centre where she remained in serious but stable condition on Wednesday.

The driver was not injured, police said.

Investigators said the driver remained on the scene and was taken into custody.

“Speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

Police add that alcohol and drugs are not factors in the investigation.
