Toronto police said officers responded to a call at Milford Haven Drive and Greenock Avenue, near Scarborough Golf Club Road, around 3:00 a.m.

Officers located two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

Police said one victim, identified as 17-year-old Mohammed Gharda, was pronounced dead on scene.

Another victim, an 18-year-old man, was rushed to hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Det. Jeff Allington told reporters on Sunday investigators believe it was a “targeted” attack.

Neighbourhood resident George Mitas told Global News that the street is a “quiet” one and that nothing like this has ever happened before.

“All the time I’m here, nothing happened. All the people are quiet, everyone knows each other, helps each other,” he said.

Kaushik Shah said he was awakened by police knocking on his door after 3 a.m. asking if he or his family had heard anything.

“Right now, we’re a little bit worried about safety and the circumstances, I don’t know what happened on this street or that street, and police are still investigating.”

Silva Rasah told Global News he heard noises in the middle of the night and assumed kids had been shooting fireworks. But when the police came to speak to him, he realized that wasn’t the case.

“I have two kids, I worry about their safety,” he said. “I’ve lived here [in the neighbourhood] more than 10 years, I feel very sad.”

Rasah said he came to Canada over 20 years ago after escaping a civil war in Sri Lanka.

“I know the pain, if anybody loses anybody, or if anything happens, I know the pain,” he said.

He said he feels safe in Canada and to have an incident like this in his neighbourhood feels “weird.”

Police have not released any details on possible suspects.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with dash cam footage or any surveillance images of the incident to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Toronto Police Service at (416) 808-7000 or Crime Stoppers (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
