Pedestrian killed on LRT tracks in Calgary

A pedestrian was killed on the LRT tracks near Whitehorn station in Calgary Wednesday, police said.

At around 9 a.m., police were called to the intersection of 39 Avenue N.E. and 36 Street N.E.

“Upon arrival, the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

The victim was an elderly female, police said in a 12:20 p.m. update.

Calgary police said the intersection control arms were down at the time.

The roads in the area were re-opened as of 12:20 p.m.

In February 2017, a 30-year-old man was hit and killed by a CTrain in the same area. Police said the victim was using his cellphone and wearing earphones at the time.
